Embracing the Accent: Trend 2 for the night!

9 10 2009

Earlier today I exposed the hot new trend of lying down in your video as opposed to the boring standing,  or worse, dancing.  Then I stumbled upon biggest thing to hit music since Autotune…real accents. I grew up as a kid trying to discern what singers were Brits vs. Americans. I realized then that most British bands from the start were trying to imitate American accents and for the most part they did for years. We started rock n’ Roll, they followed. They did it better, but still. And since, we’ve had splashes of vocalists who couldn’t hide it: Billy Bragg, The Pogues, The Sex Pistols. But mostly even the most Anglo of them all sound like their American counterparts when it comes to singing accents.

But recently, the Scottish bands Glasvegas and We Were Promised Jetpacks have bucked that trend. They embraced the accents so many before (Simple Minds, Texas and Del Amitri) glossed over. And the result, dead sexy! Glasvegas We Were Promised Jetpacks
